A strange bet, with a vintage car at stake, results in an unlikely job for a college professor. Once a week, for an hour or so, he is obliged to drive an old man around.
Almost as a hobby, the professor tries to uncover the old man’s secretive past and in the meantime gets a healthy dose of his own medicine, education, from this unlikeliest of sources. Mr. Aris, the old man, proves to be a fountain of interesting though often obscure and even questionable information. All this makes for a refreshingly new perspective on life.
This book is a treasure trove of fascinating facts. But it is a lot more than that. It is a tale of forbidden love and the terrible consequences of war.
It is an account of abject struggle against poverty and a heart-warming love affair with a country - and a car.
Adventure, friendship, romance, ancient mythology, modern history, mysterious old codes and all these against the backdrop of this beautiful Mediterranean island we know so little about....

I have just finished it and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. It is a classic Greek Tragedy in the finest sense of the word. It certainly appealed to
me as I remember very vividly the partitioning of Cyprus after the Turkish invasion and I also remember much about the Archbishop Makarios
administration of the late 60s early 70s. Sara, my wife, was actually in Cyprus up to just one week before the invasion and her father was actually
there! So this is all very vivid even if the Cyprus independence struggle pre-dated me (just).rnrnStrongly suggest that if you are at all interested
in European history you get a copy and read it. It is a good read even without the MG Magnette connection and I am deeply grateful to Elmos Konis for
having been kind enough to sign my book. rnrnI have a 1955 MG Magnette ZA and all the details on the car given in the book are 100% accurate.rnrnThank
you Elmos and good luck with a great book. I hope you get the recognition you so richly deserve.rnrnPaulBrn

this is a must read book if you have lived in cyprus or if you would like to learn a lot about cyprus. you will learn that politics affect everyone on
the island and when people unite on both sides to send both armies back to the sea, only then cyprus will gain true freedom.rnjust dont make me come
